Our Story
Zeta Beta Xi was founded in the fall of 1993 at SUNY Geneseo. What began under the banner of a national organization became something rarer: our Founding Fathers chose their own path and broke away to build a tight-knit, self-governed local fraternity — answerable only to its brothers and its principles.
More than thirty years later, that independence still defines us. We aren't a chapter of someone else's rulebook; we are a brotherhood that writes its own. From Geneseo to careers and families across the world, the bonds formed here don't end at graduation — they compound.
Our earliest members were once tied to a national fraternity. They wanted deeper roots and real self-determination — so they left, and founded Zeta Beta Xi as an independent local. That decision is our founding legend and our compass.
